The “More Than a Game” program was created to expose and challenge the players to practice different character traits (i.e. respect, caring, responsibility) as well as giving them the opportunity to play sports in a faith-based program. By asking the players to take this extra step and think outside the box, hence “More Than a Game”, we are hoping to further encourage them either in what they already know or expose them to something new.
The plan basically breaks down into different categories: Discipline Star, Respect Star, Responsibility Star, etc., based on their age group. Once the player has completed 4 tasks in that category/star they are to have their parent sign-off on a completed merit star ticket (provided at the back of the “More Than a Game” handout and online). The Faith star is the only star that needs to be completed by reciting the assigned Bible verses to the coach. The completed merit star ticket will then be turned in to the player’s coach and in turn the coach will turn the ticket in to the snack bar to get an iron-on star. The star will then be given to the player and the star can then be ironed on to their jersey. Our goal is to demonstrate and teach our players faith-based values that they can take with them on and off the field…to teach them that it truly is “More Than a Game”.
Thank you for your support of the CCC Stars program and we hope you have a great season!
